Mercedes SL Fault Code Issue

I'm getting an error message on my 2018 Mercedes SL with a gasoline engine, around 197485 km. It shows in the infotainment and speedometer, and there's an error stored. Could incorrect vehicle coding cause this? Has anyone else had this on their Mercedes? Thinking engine diagnostics might be needed.

Sounds like a coding issue. Did you check the OBD-II port for fault codes? What codes are you getting?

I haven't checked the OBD-II port myself, but the workshop thinks it's a coding error. What fault codes usually mean a coding problem? Want to know before I spend money. Expecting around 360€ for repairs.

Without the fault code, it's hard to be sure. But incorrect coding causes odd codes. The check engine light is probably on. Read and clear the codes, then see if it returns. If it does, you'll probably need a recode.

Thanks for the advice. It was a coding issue. The workshop recoded it, and the error messages are gone. The check engine is off now. Your insights helped me understand what was happening. The cost was as expected, 360€.
