Thanks for the quick reply. No recent work done and no aftermarket stuff installed. I don't have the specific error code right now I'd have to get it scanned again. But if it IS a faulty control unit on the MOST bus, is that a super expensive fix We talking a complete system overhaul or what

I understand your concern regarding the potential cost. Given the symptoms and the likely diagnosis pointing towards a control unit malfunction within the MOST bus network, it is difficult to provide an exact cost estimate without a precise identification of the faulty component. However, I can confirm that on my Mercedes SL, I had a similar issue a while back. The issue was indeed related to the data transmission along the bus system. The diagnostic process involved a methodical check of each control unit connected to the fiber optics network, which can be time-consuming. The eventual repair entailed replacing a defective head unit, and the final invoice totaled approximately 1000€. It would be prudent to consult a qualified technician possessing experience in Mercedes-Benz MOST bus diagnostics for a precise assessment.

Okay, that's really helpful to know, especially the potential 1000€ cost figure. Sounds like a trip to the workshop is unavoidable. At least I have some idea what to expect now. Thanks a lot for the insights

A MOST bus fault can indeed be quite vexing in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The symptoms you describe align with a disruption in the optical data transmission within the bus system. If the audio, navigation, and other functionalities dependent on the Media Oriented Systems Transport bus are inoperative, it does suggest an issue with one of the control units connected within the bus network, possibly due to a defect. Has there been any recent work done on the car's electrical system, or any aftermarket accessories installed Is it possible to determine which control unit is triggering the error code If you can get the specific code it would provide a more substantial starting point.
