Mercedes SL Overheating Issue

I am experiencing a car overheating issue with my 2018 Mercedes SL, gasoline engine, with approximately 172344 km on the odometer. The check engine light illuminated recently, and I have observed the engine temperature rising above normal operating levels. Upon inspection, the car radiator fan does not appear to be functioning correctly. My suspicion is a defective speed sensor within the cooling system. Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

Whoa, car overheating is never a good sign! I had something similar happen with my SL – scared me half to death! My temperature gauge went crazy, and I thought the engine was going to explode. Check the fan blade itself, make sure nothing is blocking it. Could be something simple. But yeah, the speed sensor thing could be it too. Hope it’s not too expensive!

Regarding your experience, could you provide more details about the symptoms you observed and how you eventually resolved the issue? Specifically, did you notice any unusual noises or fluctuations in temperature before the overheating became apparent?

Okay, so I didn't notice any weird noises, just the temperature climbing really fast. Turns out, for me, it was the same thing – a sensor issue messing with the temperature control and the fan not kicking on when it should. Honestly, I panicked and took it straight to a workshop. They sorted it out pretty quickly. Might be worth doing the same to save yourself a headache.

I appreciate your advice. After further investigation and consulting with a qualified technician, the issue was indeed a defective speed sensor related to the radiator fan. The repair, including parts and labor, cost 250€. The cooling system is now functioning as expected, and the car overheating problem has been resolved.
