Mercedes SLC brake light problem

Brake light failure on my 2019 Mercedes SLC Gasoline engine Anyone seen this before

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Mercedes SLC owner experienced a brake light failure and sought advice. The issue was identified as potentially related to the brake switch, possibly disturbed during recent floor mat installation. The brake switch is located above the brake pedal, and a loose connection or obstruction could cause the problem. Upon inspection, it was found that the new floor mat was pressing against the brake pedal, causing the lights to stay on. Removing the mat resolved the issue without any repair costs.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Audi A4, though it was a slightly different setup. Same symptoms though – brake light error, lights not working. The error code pointed to the brake switch. Did you happen to adjust anything under the dash recently, maybe near the pedals? Sometimes just bumping those things can mess them up. Before you go too deep, try just wiggling the connector on the brake switch itself. It might be loose. It's worth a shot before you start replacing parts.

Thanks for the tip I was installing new floor mats last week and might have kicked something under there Where exactly is the brake switch located And is it easy to get to the connector without taking everything apart

Yeah, that could definitely be it. The brake switch is usually right above the brake pedal. You'll probably have to contort yourself a bit to get a good look. Check if the switch is properly seated. I would suggest taking it to a workshop if you can't reach it or don't know how to remove the trim panels to access it. Better to have a pro do it than break something else.

Thanks so much for the advice I took your suggestion and double-checked the brake switch area. Turns out the new floor mat was slightly too thick and was pressing against the brake pedal just enough to keep the brake lights on constantly, which probably fried the switch. Removed the mat, problem solved No repair cost at all. Appreciate you pointing me in the right direction
