Mercedes SLC Exhaust Flap Issue

I'm having a head-scratcher with my 2019 Mercedes SLC, gasoline engine. It's done 214381 km. Recently, I've noticed the exhaust noise is much louder than usual, especially after a cold start – almost a noisy engine running kind of sound. I scanned for errors and it's showing something related to the exhaust flaps. I'm suspecting the exhaust flap might be defective, affecting engine performance. Could this be a flap motor or flap actuator issue? I'm a bit worried about the exhaust components in general. Has anyone experienced similar exhaust noise problems?

Sounds like a plausible diagnosis. If the error code points to the exhaust flap, it very well could be the flap motor or actuator. Is the exhaust noise consistently loud, or does it change after the engine warms up? Have you checked the wiring to the flap motor? I'm not sure though, maybe someone else knows more about this.

Thanks for the reply! The exhaust noise seems to be worse when the engine is cold, then it gets a bit quieter, but still louder than it used to be. I haven't checked the wiring to the flap motor yet – is that something I can easily do myself, or does it require special tools? Where exactly is the flap actuator located? I'm not sure where to look.

Okay, so it changes with temperature, interesting. I'm not entirely sure about your specific model, but usually, you can visually inspect the wiring for damage. The flap actuator is generally near the exhaust. Honestly, given the symptoms and error code, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. Better safe than sorry with exhaust components. I think they can properly diagnose the flap motor or actuator.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was a defective exhaust flap. The repair cost 190€. The exhaust noise is now back to normal, and the error is gone. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
