Mercedes Sprinter Battery Sensor Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Mercedes Sprinter diesel exhibited symptoms of a weak battery and flickering lights, with diagnostics indicating a faulty battery sensor. The issue was confirmed by checking the battery voltage with a multimeter, which showed normal levels, suggesting the sensor was defective. The battery sensor, integrated into the negative battery cable clamp, was replaced at a workshop, resolving the low voltage warning and electrical issues.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the battery voltage with a multimeter, and it seemed okay, around 12.6V when the engine is off, but the vehicle diagnostics tool still flags a low voltage error related to the battery sensor Where exactly is the voltage sensor located? I want to inspect the wiring before I replace parts What was your eventual repair?

On mine, the battery sensor was integrated into the negative battery cable clamp Since your multimeter voltage readings are okay, I suspect the sensor is defective It's best to get it properly diagnosed at a workshop They should be able to confirm the defective battery sensor and replace it That's what I had to do

Took it to a trusted workshop, and you were spot on It was indeed a defective battery sensor They replaced it, and the low voltage warning is gone, flickering lights disappeared, and it starts great again Total cost was 315€ for the sensor and labor Thanks for the help!

I had a similar issue with my Sprinter I didn't see any improvement even with a new battery Eventually, it turned out to be the voltage sensor on the battery itself The system reported incorrect battery voltage, which caused electrical issues Have you checked the actual battery voltage with a multimeter to confirm the sensor readings? Also, examine the wiring harness and connector going to the battery sensor, corrosion can cause issues
