Mercedes Sprinter Diesel 2007: Signs of restricted boost pressure control and declining engine performance

Hello folks, has anyone had any experience with a possible functional restriction of the boost pressure control on a 2007 Mercedes Sprinter Diesel with 198,769 km on the clock? I am currently experiencing the following symptoms: The check engine light is on, the engine is running rough, acceleration is jerky, and I have the feeling that the engine power is diminishing. After a pretty horrible experience at the last mechanic visit, I'm a bit worried. Would love to hear your experiences or know what I can expect at my next garage. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Mercedes Sprinter Diesel is experiencing signs of restricted boost pressure control, including a check engine light, rough engine operation, jerky acceleration, and diminished engine power. These symptoms may be linked to a defective wastegate valve actuator, as a similar issue was resolved in another vehicle by repairing this component. Prompt attention to the problem is advised to prevent further complications, and a visit to a mechanic is recommended for diagnosis and repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I actually had the same problem with my 2010 Mercedes Vito. At around 180,000 km, the check engine light started to come on and the acceleration started to jerk. In my case, wastegate valve actuator defective was in the fault memory, sounds similar to your description. My engine was also running rather rough. So I went to the garage and they fixed it. Like you, my engine performance was also noticeably lower. The mechanic said it's a serious issue but shouldn't be a cause for panic as long as you don't ignore it and make sure you get it fixed. Hope this helps, hopefully it doesn't make you too nervous.

Hey, thanks for your quick feedback. Your description does sound similar to my Sprinter. I'm a little reassured that it wasn't a catastrophic issue for you. Can you remember the cost of the repair? And have you encountered any other problems along these lines since? I'm just trying to assess what I'm up against. Thank you!

Hey, no problem, happy to help. Well, the problem with my Vito was completely resolved after the visit to the mechanic. The "functional restriction of the boost pressure control" was no longer an issue after that. I can still remember the costs well, it was quite a lot. To be precise, it was €1820 for the repair of the wastegate valve actuator. Since then, however, I have had no further problems with the boost pressure. It was an expensive job, but in the end it was worth it to get it fixed. I hope this helps you with your decision.

Wow, that is indeed a hefty sum. But I guess it's better to fix it now before it leads to even bigger problems. Thank you so much for your helpful information. You have definitely eased some of my fears. I'll make an appointment with the garage tomorrow. Fingers crossed that everything goes as smoothly for me as it did for you. Many thanks again!
