Mercedes V Klasse active hood fault

I'm experiencing an active hood fault on my 2004 Mercedes V Klasse with a diesel engine, mileage is 212720 km. The on-board computer displays "Active hood fault", and the airbag warning lamp is illuminated. I've scanned for errors and it shows a fault related to the active hood system. The spring actuators have been triggered. Could a defective acceleration sensor be the cause? I was quoted 315€ for the repair. Is this a common car electronics issue related to pedestrian safety and crash detection?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my V Klasse not long ago. Same message, same airbag light. It's like the car thinks it's constantly in a fender bender. Was there any impact that might have triggered the impact sensor?

No impact that I'm aware of. The system fault appeared spontaneously. Could it be a sensitivity issue with the crash detection? How did you resolve the active hood fault on your car? Was it also the acceleration sensor?

Yep, turned out to be a faulty sensor. If the spring actuators are triggered, and you didn't hit anything, then yeah, it's almost certainly the sensor. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop; these car electronics glitches can be a real pain to diagnose without the right tools.

Thanks for the advice. I had the acceleration sensor replaced at a workshop, and the "Active hood fault" message is now gone. The airbag warning lamp is also off. The system seems to be working correctly now. I appreciate your help.
