Mercedes V Klasse active hood fault
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Mercedes V Klasse owner experienced an "Active hood fault" message and an illuminated airbag warning lamp, indicating a problem with the active hood system. The issue was traced to triggered spring actuators, likely caused by a defective acceleration sensor. After replacing the sensor at a workshop, the fault message and airbag warning were resolved, restoring the system's functionality. This problem is related to car electronics, specifically pedestrian safety and crash detection systems.

No impact that I'm aware of. The system fault appeared spontaneously. Could it be a sensitivity issue with the crash detection? How did you resolve the active hood fault on your car? Was it also the acceleration sensor?

Yep, turned out to be a faulty sensor. If the spring actuators are triggered, and you didn't hit anything, then yeah, it's almost certainly the sensor. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop; these car electronics glitches can be a real pain to diagnose without the right tools.

Thanks for the advice. I had the acceleration sensor replaced at a workshop, and the "Active hood fault" message is now gone. The airbag warning lamp is also off. The system seems to be working correctly now. I appreciate your help.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my V Klasse not long ago. Same message, same airbag light. It's like the car thinks it's constantly in a fender bender. Was there any impact that might have triggered the impact sensor?
