Mercedes V Klasse radio silence audio issue

My 2020 Mercedes V Klasse, diesel engine, with 173843 km is having audio problems. The radio is silent. No sound whatsoever. I suspect a defective bass speaker, has anyone experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Mercedes V Klasse experienced a complete audio failure, suspected to be due to a defective bass speaker. Possible causes for the issue included a faulty amplifier fuse or speaker problems. It was suggested to check the amplifier fuse and conduct a diagnostic scan to identify fault codes related to the audio system. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be the bass speaker, which was repaired at a workshop, restoring the sound quality.

A total loss of audio output in a Mercedes V Klasse often points to component failure. While a defective bass speaker could be the culprit, consider a systematic approach before replacement. Have you checked the amplifier fuse? Its location can vary based on the specific audio package. Also, sound distortion preceding the silence would further indicate speaker issues. Intermittent volume control problems could also be a clue. A diagnostic scan might reveal fault codes related to the audio system, pinpointing the source of the radio silence.

Where exactly is the amplifier fuse located? I'll check that first before tearing apart the door panels checking the car speakers.

The amplifier fuse in your V Klasse is typically located in the main fuse box, often found under the driver's seat or in the engine compartment. Consult your owner's manual for the precise location; fuse charts are invaluable. Given the abrupt nature of the audio loss, focusing on the fuse and a diagnostic scan at a reputable workshop seems prudent. The cost of speaker replacement, even before factoring in labor, could easily exceed the diagnostic fee. I had a similar issue with a C-Class some time ago, and it turned out to be a faulty head unit connection, so I ended up going to the workshop anyway.

Thanks for the help. I checked the fuse, and it was fine. Took it to the workshop; they confirmed it was the bass speaker. Repair cost 280€, which is annoying, but at least the sound quality is back to normal.
