Mercedes Viano Audio System Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Mercedes Viano's audio system is completely non-functional, with diagnostics indicating a stored error. The initial suspicion is a faulty display, potentially linked to issues like speaker crackle or Bluetooth problems. Suggested solutions include checking audio fuses and considering professional diagnostics, which ultimately confirmed the display unit as the problem, leading to its replacement and resolution of the issue.

Thanks. When you say check fuses, do you mean just the audio ones, or something more like a CAN bus fuse? Also, did your Saab have speaker crackle before it died?

Start with the audio fuses. Speaker crackle wasn't happening for me. With the stored error, a workshop check might be best. Intermittent problems are hard to find alone.

I understand. I'll get it professionally checked. The shop said the display unit was bad, like I thought, and replacing it fixed it. Thanks.

I had something similar with my old Saab. The head unit slowly died. Audio went bad, then dashboard controls quit. Finally, nothing. Check the fuses first, then suspect the display.
