Mercedes X Klasse Active Hood Fault

My 2017 Mercedes X Klasse with a diesel engine is throwing up an "Active hood fault" message. The airbag warning light is also illuminated. Diagnostics point to triggered spring actuators and a stored error related to the active hood system. I suspect a defective acceleration sensor. Has anyone else encountered this? Is this active hood system fault a known issue?

I've seen similar issues on the X Klasse. The active hood system fault can be quite persistent. Does the error memory specifically point to the acceleration sensor? I would check the wiring and connections to the sensor first. Could also be a faulty control unit.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate the input. I took it to a trusted mechanic, and you were spot on; replacing the acceleration sensor for 315€ did the trick. The error is gone, and both the active hood and airbag systems are functioning correctly again.
