Mercedes X Klasse Diesel Engine Throttle Issue

My 2017 Mercedes X Klasse with a diesel engine has a strange issue. With 279345 km, fuel consumption has increased noticeably. The engine idle is rough, and it sometimes struggles to start. I suspect it's related to the engine throttle. Could a defective accelerator pedal module cause issues with the air intake and throttle position, ultimately affecting the throttle body?

Increased fuel consumption and poor starting could be related to the throttle valve. Have you checked for any error codes? A diagnostic scan might provide more information about the throttle position sensor and the overall engine throttle system.

I haven't checked for error codes yet. Where exactly is the throttle position sensor located, and is it difficult to access on this engine?

The throttle position sensor is usually integrated within the throttle body. Access can vary depending on the engine configuration. Given the symptoms, I would advise having a workshop perform a diagnostic check. The defective accelerator pedal module may well be the cause of your troubles.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop. They confirmed the throttle valve was defective and replaced it. The accelerator pedal module was indeed the culprit. Total cost was 205€. Runs much better now.
