Hydraulic fluid level is okay, I checked that first I haven't had the wheel alignment checked recently What exactly do you mean by 'extra strain on the steering system'? And do you remember what the fix was for your X Klasse?

What I mean is, if your wheel alignment is out of whack, the steering system has to work harder to keep the car going straight That extra effort can cause vibrations and a generally odd feeling In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector on the power steering pump It was causing intermittent failures I'd recommend getting yours checked out by a workshop They can properly diagnose it and make sure it's not something more serious

I took it to a workshop as you recommended, and you were spot on! It was indeed a defective plug connection on the power steering They replaced the connector, and everything is working perfectly now The whole repair cost me about 95€, which is way better than a new steering rack!

Sounds familiar The vibrating steering wheel and spongy feel are classic symptoms I would check the hydraulic fluid level first, that's the easiest thing to rule out Low fluid can definitely cause those issues Also, are you sure the wheel alignment is correct? If it's off, it can put extra strain on the steering system and make it feel weird It could be a faulty plug connection as you mentioned, which is a plausible explanation given the error code
