Micra engine knocking and power loss

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2009 Nissan Micra with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. It's got 217102 km on the clock, and lately, it's developed this awful knocking sound in the engine. What's worse, it's lost power, jerks like crazy when I try to accelerate, and puffs out smoke when I put my foot down. I even scanned it and there's an error code stored. Could this be piston slap? I'm thinking it might be something to do with the combustion chamber. Anyone experienced anything similar? Any ideas before I start tearing things apart?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Nissan Micra with 217,102 km is experiencing engine knocking, power loss, jerking during acceleration, and smoke emission. The issue may be related to deposits in the combustion chamber, causing knocking combustion. A workshop visit is recommended for proper diagnosis and cleaning, as similar symptoms were resolved by addressing combustion chamber deposits.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Micra! Not sure about the year, but the symptoms sound familiar. Reduced power and jerking, especially when accelerating. Was the knocking sound consistent, or only under load? I was thinking it could be something with the fuel mixture or even bad gas. Have you tried any fuel additives or anything like that?

The knocking is definitely worse when the engine is under load, like going uphill or accelerating hard. I haven't tried any fuel additives yet, but honestly, I'm a bit worried it's something more serious. Could deposits in the combustion chamber actually cause all these problems? Did you also see smoke coming out of the exhaust?

Yep, the smoke was there too. Honestly, after chasing my tail for a while, I ended up taking it to a workshop. Turns out it was exactly that – deposits in the combustion chamber causing knocking combustion. They sorted it out, but it wasn't cheap. I'd say get it checked out properly before you start throwing parts at it.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like I'm heading for the workshop then. At least I have an idea what to tell them to look for. They quoted me 425€ for cleaning. Hopefully, that solves it!
