Micra Overvoltage Errors

Having a terrible time with my 2003 Nissan Micra diesel. It keeps throwing up overvoltage errors. I've got many fault memory entries relating to overvoltage, various systems are failing, the battery seems weak when starting, and generally, there's electrical mayhem! The car has only done 68763 km. Has anyone experienced something similar? Could a heavily discharged or defective battery cause this?

Hey there. I had a similar issue with my Micra. I was pulling my hair out! You wouldn't believe the amount of fault codes popping up! The symptoms sound awfully familiar, especially the weak battery. It's a pain, I know. Have you checked the alternator output voltage? Also, what's the battery voltage reading when the engine is off?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the alternator output directly, but the onboard diagnostics are reporting high voltage. The battery reads around 12.4V when off. Were your symptoms exactly the same? Did you manage to fix it yourself?

Yeah, sounds like it's heading the same way mine did. I messed about with it for ages, and couldn't sort it. In the end, I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. They found that the battery was goosed and that the overvoltage had also knackered the ECU. It might be worth a trip to a garage to get them to have a look.

Thanks for the advice! I suspected it was heading that way. I took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on! The battery was indeed heavily discharged and defective, causing the overvoltage and damaging other components. The repair cost me 290€, including a new battery and ECU reset. Thanks again for your help!
