Mini Cabrio Diesel Overvoltage Error
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mini Cabrio Diesel was experiencing an overvoltage error, causing multiple system failures and a weak battery during startup. Initially suspecting alternator failure, the issue was traced to a heavily discharged or defective car battery. Replacing the battery resolved the overvoltage problems, confirming it as the root cause.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the quick reply! The alternator was actually my initial thought as well, but I wasn't sure since it's a relatively new unit. How did you eventually solve the issue with your Mini? Was it indeed the alternator, or something else entirely?

Mine turned out to be the car battery. Even though it was relatively new, it had a bad cell. The alternator was working overtime trying to compensate, which likely caused the voltage regulator to get stressed. If you have access to diagnostic tools, check the battery's internal resistance. If it's high, that's a good indicator that the battery is the culprit. Otherwise, take it to a workshop, I suppose. They will find the root cause.

Just wanted to let you know that the problem is finally solved. It was indeed the car battery which was heavily discharged and defective. After replacing it, all the overvoltage issues disappeared. The final bill was 290€, which is acceptable. Thanks again for your help!

Overvoltage, huh? I had something similar happen with my Mini a while back. Drove me nuts trying to figure it out. Have you checked the alternator? A failing voltage regulator in the alternator can cause some serious voltage spikes, which could explain the fault codes and the weak battery. Also, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. A bad connection can also cause weird voltage fluctuations. Did you check the car ECU for error codes?
