Mini Cabrio Electric Tire Pressure Warning and Steering Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mini Cabrio Electric is experiencing a tire pressure warning light, ABS light, vibrating steering wheel, and increased steering effort, suggesting a potential power steering failure. These issues could be related to a flat tire or a problem with the tire monitoring system. A faulty tire sensor or valve causing a slow leak might lead to incorrect tire pressure readings, affecting the steering and ABS system. Replacing the faulty valve resolved the issue, eliminating the warning lights and restoring normal steering function.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'faulty tire sensor', does that also explain the vibrating steering wheel and increased steering effort? I thought those were separate issues.

Yep, those symptoms could absolutely be related! In my case, the faulty valve was causing a slow leak, which messed with the tire pressure readings and threw off the whole system. The vibrating steering wheel likely happened because the tire pressure difference between the tires. The system probably struggled to compensate, hence the weird steering. I'd still recommend getting it checked by a workshop. Ignoring it could damage the ABS system.

Just wanted to update you. It was indeed a faulty valve in the tire, like you suggested. Had it replaced, and the warning is gone. Total cost was 280€. Thanks again for your help!

Whoa, that sounds like a mess! I had a similar issue with my Mini Cabrio – though thankfully, the power steering didn't completely fail. The tire pressure low warning kept popping up, and the ABS light was also on. I'd check your tire pressures manually with a tire gauge. The tire monitoring system can be a bit sensitive. If the pressures are fine, there might be a small air leak somewhere. Have you inspected the tires for any punctures or damage? It could also be a faulty tire sensor, which isn't fun.
