Mini Cabrio Engine Cooling Problem

I've noticed some rather concerning symptoms lately: the display is showing incorrect temperatures, the check engine light has illuminated, and the engine is taking an unacceptably long time to warm up. My initial thought is that the cooling grille may be restricted, leading to inadequate engine cooling and potential radiator blockage. Could a defective fuse be the culprit, contributing to this restricted airflow and these troublesome symptoms?

Interesting issue you're having with your Mini's engine cooling. A restricted airflow through the cooling grille could certainly cause those symptoms. I'd suggest checking the cooling fan operation as well. Does it seem to be running normally when the engine is warm? It's designed to draw air through the radiator, aiding engine cooling, especially at lower speeds.

That's a good point about the cooling fan. I haven't paid much attention to it. What exactly should I be looking for when checking its operation? Is there a specific sound or behavior that indicates a problem with the engine cooling?

A cooling fan should kick in when the engine temperature rises above a certain threshold. If you don't hear or see it running when the engine is hot (be careful not to burn yourself!), that could indicate a problem. A fuse related to the cooling system is a common cause, and if that's the case, a workshop will be able to pinpoint the correct fuse and replace it for you. A blocked cooling grille will definitely also affect the engine cooling. Consider getting the cooling system inspected by a qualified mechanic. It's worth the peace of mind.

Thank you so much for your insights! It turned out that there was indeed a fuse defective. As you suggested, I took my Mini Cabrio to the workshop and the guys there confirmed that the automotive cooling issue was caused by a blown fuse related to the cooling grille. Replacing it was a quick job and cost me only 52€. Now the engine reaches its operating temperature much faster and the temperature readings are back to normal. Very much appreciated!
