Mini Cabrio Engine Stalling Issue

Alright, my 2011 Mini Cabrio with 99282 km on the clock is giving me a headache. The check engine light is on and the engine stalls sometimes when idling. I'm suspecting a fuel tank ventilation system leak, probably a defective activated charcoal filter. Anyone experienced this before?

I had a similar problem with my Mini Cabrio, although I can’t recall the exact mileage at the time. The check engine light was on, and the engine would occasionally stall, particularly at idle. It sounds like your EVAP system might be compromised. Have you noticed any change in your fuel efficiency? I would also check the air flow around the engine and the pressure sensor, as these components can be affected by this issue. Think of it like a plumbing system, if one pipe is leaking, it affects the whole system.

Interesting, thanks. When you say EVAP system, are you referring to the fuel tank ventilation system? I suspect the activated charcoal filter is defective. Did you replace it yourself or did you take it to a workshop?

Yes, EVAP is short for evaporative emission control system; it's all related to the fuel tank ventilation. I didn't replace the filter myself. Given the complexity of accessing the EVAP system and the need to ensure proper sealing to prevent future leaks, I opted to have a trusted workshop handle the repair. Better safe than sorry. I recommend you do the same.

I took the Mini to the workshop and they confirmed it was the activated charcoal filter causing the fuel tank ventilation leak, just like you suspected. Repair cost me 275€. Thanks for your help!
