Mini Cabrio Engine Troubles
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Mini Cabrio is experiencing engine troubles, including rough running, stalling at idle, and jerking during acceleration, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a defective ignition coil or a related issue with cable or plug connections. It is suggested to check the spark plug connections and consider a diagnostic at a workshop. The problem was confirmed to be a defective ignition coil, which was replaced along with the spark plug, resolving the issue.

Interesting. When you say 'coil pack', do you mean the ignition coil itself, or something else? And were your symptoms similar – jerking when accelerating, check engine light, the whole shebang?

Yes, coil pack is another name for the ignition coil. My Fiat experienced very similar symptoms: engine hesitation, jerking under load, and the dreaded check engine light. Given your symptoms, I would recommend taking it to the workshop. The diagnostic should confirm the defective ignition coil.

Just wanted to update you. The workshop confirmed it was indeed a defective ignition coil. They replaced it, along with the spark plug on that cylinder. Running smoothly now. Final bill was 95€. Thanks for the help!

Rough running and stalling sounds familiar. I had similar engine hesitation issues with my old Fiat – turned out to be the coil pack. Have you checked the spark plug connections? Even a slightly loose cable can cause havoc with the ignition system.
