Mini Cabrio engine woes

I'm officially losing my mind with my 2012 Mini Cabrio! It's got almost 110000 km on the clock and is playing up big time. The check engine light is on, it's guzzling fuel like there's no tomorrow, and the engine stalls when idling! Oh, and there's smoke when I accelerate, which is super not cool. I'm pretty sure it's the mass air flow meter, or LMM as we say around here. Anyone else had similar drama? I've checked the air filter and that seems okay, so I reckon it's sensor failure. What do you think?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Mini Cabrio. Check engine light, rough idle, and the fuel consumption was terrible. It was the MAF sensor for me too.

Really? Was it the exact same symptoms? I'm pulling my hair out here. How did you finally figure out it was the MAF sensor? Did you try cleaning it first or just replace it?

Yep, almost identical. The check engine light was the giveaway, plus the rough running. I didn't mess with cleaning it, just went straight to the workshop. They confirmed it was the MAF sensor and swapped it out. Problem solved immediately.

Just wanted to let you know that you nailed it. The workshop confirmed the MAF sensor was the culprit. New sensor installed, air filter replaced while they were at it, and the car is running like a champ again. 365€ lighter in the wallet, but totally worth it. Thanks again for the help!
