Mini Cabrio Sound System Failure

Alright, I'm officially losing my mind over this sound system issue in my 2015 Mini Cabrio Diesel. The whole thing just died on me, no sound whatsoever. There's an error stored in the memory, and from what I've gathered, it points to a defective display. Before it went completely silent, I was experiencing some annoying speaker crackle and occasional static noise. Has anyone else encountered this? Could it really be the display, or am I looking at faulty wiring somewhere?

Ugh, sound system problems are the worst! I had something similar happen in my Mini, not the Cabriolet version but same brand, same frustration. At first I thought it was faulty wiring because of the static noise sometimes, but then it just cut out completely. Did you check the fuses at all? I would start there, before assuming the display is defective.

Thanks for the reply! Fuses are okay, I already checked them. The error memory points towards the display, but I'm still not entirely convinced. When your sound system failed, did the volume control also become unresponsive? Was there any speaker crackle beforehand, or did it just die suddenly?

Yeah, the volume control was completely dead, along with everything else. There was a slight static noise for a while, then nothing. I guess the display unit going bad makes sense then if you have that error code. I'd probably just take it to a workshop; messing with the sound system wiring can be a real headache. It's probably the display unit after all.

Okay, thanks for the insight. I bit the bullet and took my Mini Cabrio to the workshop. Turns out the display unit was indeed faulty, just like the error code suggested. Cost me around 725€ to get it sorted, but at least I can enjoy my music again without that awful speaker crackle. Thanks again!
