Mini Clubman electronic parking brake issue

I'm at my wit's end with this electronic parking brake issue on my 2015 Mini Clubman. The electronic handbrake is completely useless. I've got an error stored in the memory, and the warning light is constantly on in the speedometer. From what I've gathered, it's likely a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. I'm looking at a repair bill of around 505€. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Mini Clubman is experiencing issues with its electronic parking brake, indicated by a persistent warning light and an error code. The problem is suspected to be a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. A repair cost of approximately 505€ is anticipated. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired by a professional workshop to ensure safety and proper functioning.

That sounds remarkably similar to an issue I encountered with my Mini Cooper a while back. The parking brake became completely unresponsive, and the dashboard lit up. Did you happen to check the brake switch? Sometimes a faulty switch can cause similar symptoms, though it's less likely with the error code you mentioned.

Interesting. Where exactly is the brake switch located, and is it something I could realistically check myself, or am I better off just taking my Mini Clubman directly to a professional? I'm reasonably handy, but I don't want to make things worse.

In my case, the brake switch turned out to be a red herring. While a faulty switch can cause issues, the error code you're seeing strongly suggests the motor itself. Given the potential implications for vehicle safety, and the cost you've already estimated, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop for proper brake diagnostics and repair. Messing with the braking system without proper knowledge isn't worth the risk.

Alright, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I went ahead and took the Clubman to a workshop. As suspected, it was the electric motor in the brake caliper. The repair set me back about 505€, but at least I have peace of mind regarding vehicle safety now.
