Mini Clubman Engine Stalling and Check Engine Light

I'm at my wit's end! My 2019 Mini Clubman, the diesel version, is giving me serious headaches. It starts poorly, the engine stalls at idle, and the check engine light is constantly on. I suspect it might be the camshaft sensor, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I had a similar problem with my Clubman. The car stalled at idle, and the check engine light also came on. Have you checked the crankshaft sensor as well? Sometimes a fault in one sensor can trigger errors related to other sensors, like the camshaft position sensor. It's worth investigating to rule it out.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm not really that experienced with car repairs. What exactly is the difference between the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor? And how would I check the crankshaft sensor?

The camshaft sensor detects the position of the camshaft, which controls the opening and closing of the engine's valves. The crankshaft sensor detects the position of the crankshaft, which is connected to the pistons. They both provide crucial information to the engine control unit (ECU) for timing. Honestly, checking the crankshaft sensor yourself can be tricky without the right tools. Given your car's symptoms, and my previous experience, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get a proper diagnosis.

Just wanted to give an update. The workshop confirmed it was indeed the camshaft sensor. Apparently, the encoder wheel on the camshafts was defective. The whole thing cost 695€, but now the Mini is running smoothly again. Thanks a lot for the help!
