Mini Clubman rough idle issue

Ugh, I'm having some issues with my 2012 Mini Clubman. It's got about 138000 km on it, and the engine is idling really rough. It feels like it's shaking a bit too much. Could this be a defective engine mount? I'm not sure where to even start looking for the problem. Any ideas?

Hey there! I had something similar happen with my Mini Clubman. It was a wonky motor mount, causing vibrations and rough idling. First thought is always ignition coils, but it's worth checking those mounts. The rubber mount wears down over time, especially with that mileage. Does it feel worse when you're accelerating or decelerating? Also, inspect the transmission mount while you're at it, since it's all connected. Let me know what you find!

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'motor mount', are you referring to the same thing as the 'engine mount'? I'm not super familiar with all the technical terms. And how did you figure out it was the mount and not something else?

Yep, engine mount and motor mount are the same thing, my bad for the confusion! In my case, the mechanic noticed the excessive engine movement during a visual inspection. Plus, the error code pointed towards a possible electrical issue with the mount itself, which has a sensor. Given your symptoms, the mount wear is very likely. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a reliable workshop. They can properly diagnose it and replace the defective engine mount. It's not a super expensive fix, but it's important to get it done before it causes more damage.

Just wanted to give you an update. Took my Clubman to the workshop, and you were spot on! They found a defective engine mount. Turns out, the error memory had a stored error related to it, and it was causing the uneven idling. The plug connection to the mount was faulty. Cost me 95€, but the car runs smooth again. Thanks a bunch for your help!
