Mini Cooper ABS and Traction Control Issues

Alright, I'm facing a weird issue with my 2007 Mini Cooper diesel. The ABS lamp is constantly lit, and I'm experiencing traction problems, essentially meaning the ABS system is not working. Could this be a speed signal fault? A recent diagnostic suggested the affected control unit might be defective. Has anyone experienced something similar and what was the resolution?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Mini – ABS light, traction control going nuts, the whole shebang. Did the diagnostic throw any specific codes related to wheel speed sensors? Because mine ended up being a faulty ABS control unit. The speedometer was also acting up, giving erratic readings. Have you checked the wiring harness for any corrosion or damage? Sometimes, bad connections can cause weird issues with the ECM that's the Engine Control Module, basically the car's brain.

Interesting! Yes, the diagnostic pointed towards a potential issue with the control unit, perhaps a malfunction. How did you pinpoint the ABS control unit as the culprit? And did yours also affect the speedometer input, causing it to fail completely? The workshop mentioned something about needing to check the input signal from the ABS unit to the ECM.

Yep, the speedometer going haywire was a major clue! The ABS control unit basically takes the wheel speed sensor data and sends it to the speedometer and other systems. When it fails, it can mess up the whole system. Honestly, after checking the sensors and wiring, and still having the same problem, I just took it to a trusted mechanic. They confirmed the faulty ABS control unit. Be warned though, replacing it wasn't cheap; cost me around 1000€. Definitely get a professional diagnostic before throwing parts at it, but it does sound like you're on the right track.

Awesome, thanks for the heads-up! I took it to a workshop, and after diagnostics, they confirmed the control unit was faulty as we suspected. It's getting replaced, and while it stings the wallet, at least the speedometer will work again. Hopefully, no more ABS or traction control lights!
