Mini Cooper Diesel Fuel Filter Heater Issue

My 2015 Mini Cooper with the diesel engine is giving me some grief. There's an error stored related to the fuel filter heater, and I'm experiencing reduced engine power, poor engine response, higher fuel consumption, and a slightly uneven idling. I've read that a defective cable or plug connection to the heater component could be the culprit. Anyone else run into this? Is it likely to be the cause?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Mini Cooper with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced engine power, poor response, higher fuel consumption, and uneven idling, with an error related to the fuel filter heater. A defective cable or plug connection to the heater is suspected as the cause. It is suggested to check the connections and cable first, as a similar issue was resolved by replacing a defective cable, leading to improved engine performance.

I had a similar issue with my Mini Cooper a while back. My model has a diesel engine as well. Experienced reduced engine power and noticed the fuel efficiency took a hit. Have you checked the fuel filter itself? Sometimes a clogged filter can mimic those symptoms. It's like trying to breathe through a straw.

Interesting, thanks for the tip. I haven't checked the filter itself, only saw the error code related to the heater. Did your error memory also point to the fuel filter heater, or was it something else?

Yeah, the error code was specifically about the fuel filter heater. Since the error memory points directly to it, and you've already checked for obvious signs of damage, I'd say it's highly probable that the heater is the problem. I would suggest checking the connections and cable first, but in my case I just took it to the workshop and they fixed it up for about 95€. So, it could be worth getting it checked out professionally.

Just wanted to post an update. As suggested, I took it to the workshop. Turns out the fuel filter heater cable was indeed defective, just like a bad lightbulb. They replaced it, cleared the error memory, and now it's running smoothly. Thanks a bunch for the advice!
