Mini Cooper Diesel Heat Exchanger Temperature Sensor Issue

My 2009 Mini Cooper diesel has a defective heat exchanger temperature sensor. The error is stored in the error memory, and I get an error message in the speedometer. The air conditioning system won't switch on either. The likely cause, according to the diagnostic, is a defective air conditioning control unit.

Sounds like sensor malfunction. Have you checked the temperature gauge itself? Is it reading unusually high or low?

The temperature gauge in the speedometer seems normal, but there's an error message. Do you think it's still worth checking the temperature gauge?

If the diagnostic points to the sensor in the heat exchanger, and the AC isn't working, it aligns with the HVAC system being affected. It would be best to visit a workshop to confirm.

Update it was indeed the heat exchanger temperature sensor. The Mini's back on the road now. Total cost was around 980€ as expected. Thanks for your help.

Hello, the thermal exchanger sensor Where is it located? And what does it look like? Thank you

The heat exchanger temperature sensor in a Mini Cooper is typically located near the HVAC unit, often behind the dashboard. It usually looks like a small plastic or metal component with an electrical connector attached. If you're planning to inspect or replace it, ensure the vehicle is off and cool to avoid any risk. If you need further guidance, feel free to ask!

Thank you very much for the information. Is it also called an interior temperature probe?

The heat exchanger temperature sensor and the interior temperature probe are different components. The heat exchanger temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the heat exchanger, while the interior temperature probe measures the cabin's air temperature to regulate the climate control system. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask!
