Mini Cooper Diesel Oil Pressure Issue

Thanks for the quick reply! Oil change was about 5000 km ago, so it's relatively recent. Where exactly should I be looking for oil leakage? And how can I check the oil pressure sensor myself? I'm not super experienced with car repairs, to be honest.

Alright, 5000 km on the oil is fine, so probably not a simple oil issue. As for checking for leaks, look around the engine, especially around the oil filter, oil pan, and the front of the engine where the oil pump is usually located. You'll be looking for any signs of fresh oil. Honestly, checking the oil pressure sensor properly usually requires some specialized tools. Given the noises you're hearing, and the fact that you're not super experienced, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop ASAP. Continuing to drive it with low oil pressure could cause serious engine damage. Sounds like a potential oil pump failure, which isn't cheap but better than a completely wrecked engine!

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop and you were spot on. It was indeed the oil pump. Ended up costing me 755€ to replace, but at least my Mini Cooper is running smoothly again. Really appreciate the help!

Whoa, low oil pressure in a Mini with that mileage? That's rough! I had a similar issue with my old Vauxhall Astra, although it was a petrol engine. Same symptoms, though: oil pressure warning light and scary noises. First thing I'd check is whether there's any obvious oil leakage. Also, when was the last oil change? And have you checked the oil pressure sensor? Might be a faulty sensor giving you a false alarm. But honestly, those noises sound serious, and could indeed point to oil pump failure. Fingers crossed it's something simpler!
