Mini Cooper electric seat issue

I am writing to seek assistance with an issue concerning the passenger electric seat in my 2005 Mini Cooper Diesel. The seat adjustment is currently non-functional, and an error is stored in the error memory. My initial assessment leads me to believe that a heavily discharged or defective battery is the likely cause. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, and could offer insights into resolving this issue? I have checked the fuses, and they appear to be in working order. I am trying to understand the correct diagnostic steps before bringing it to a garage.

I had a similar issue with the electric seat in my Mini Cooper. Can you describe the exact error code stored in the error memory? My car presented similar symptoms, though not due to a discharged battery. It could be related to the seat wiring or the seat harness.

I do not have the exact error code available at the moment. However, the error description pointed towards a voltage issue. You mentioned a problem with your Mini Cooper electric seats. Was your issue also intermittent, and did the seat adjustment completely fail, or was it just limited functionality?

Yes, my issue was also an intermittent failure, eventually leading to a complete loss of functionality. Considering that the error description points to a voltage-related problem and you have already inspected the fuses, the next step would be to check the battery’s voltage and overall health. However, given your intermediate experience, I would recommend taking it to a workshop for a professional diagnostic. It might save you time and prevent further complications with the car seats.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I took your advice and visited a workshop. The error memory revealed a fault related to low voltage, indicating either a heavily discharged or defective battery. The battery was indeed defective. After replacing it, the electric seat now functions correctly, and the error has been cleared. The total cost, including the new battery and labor, amounted to 290€. Your input was instrumental in resolving this issue.
