Mini Cooper exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mini Cooper exhibited a warning light and smoke during acceleration, with diagnostics indicating an issue with the exhaust back pressure sensor. The problem also prevented the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) from regenerating. The suspected cause was a defective sensor affecting the exhaust system and emission control. Replacing the sensor resolved the issue, eliminating the warning light and smoke.

Yeah, the engine definitely feels sluggish, especially when accelerating. Also, I tried forcing a DPF regeneration using vehicle diagnostics, but it won't start. Was that also the case for you?

Sounds very familiar. I had the exact same symptoms. My mechanic confirmed it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. I'd say get it checked out by a workshop to be sure.

Just wanted to update you it was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor. Got it replaced for 245€, including labor and the part. The warning light is gone, and the smoke is gone. Thanks again for the heads up!

I had something similar happen with my Mini. Is it impacting your engine performance?
