Mini Cooper Gearbox Issues

I am experiencing some serious issues with my electric 2023 Mini Cooper. The vehicle has clocked km. Shifting is no longer possible using the paddle shifters, and the gearbox seems to slip and shift uncleanly. Additionally, I'm hearing grinding noises during gear changes. The paddle shifters are very slow to respond, and the gearbox often goes into emergency mode. An error is stored in the error memory, which I suspect indicates the transmission control unit is defective. Could this be a transmission repair issue related to the car computer?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Mini Cooper is experiencing gearbox issues, including unresponsive paddle shifters, slipping, grinding noises, and emergency mode activation. These symptoms suggest a defective transmission control unit, confirmed by an error code in the vehicle's memory. The recommended solution is to replace the faulty transmission control unit, which was confirmed by a workshop diagnosis and repair.

Sounds like a faulty transmission control unit. I had similar gearbox issues with my old car, an Opel. Shifting problems, emergency mode, the whole shebang. Does the error memory show a specific code?

Yes, the error memory does show a code related to the transmission control. When you say similar issues, was the root cause also a car computer problem related to the transmission control? Was the automatic gearbox also affected in a similar manner?

Yep, the Opel's issue was the transmission control module itself. The automatic gearbox was going crazy. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to confirm the diagnosis. They can properly test the transmission control and advise on transmission repair.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I took the Mini Cooper to the workshop today, and after a thorough inspection, the diagnostic confirmed the transmission control unit is indeed defective. The transmission repair including a new control unit came to 1000€. Hopefully this resolves the gearbox issues permanently.
