Mini Cooper rear window heating malfunction

I am writing to report a problem I have encountered with my 2006 Mini Cooper. The vehicle has approximately 104337 kilometers. The rear window heating is not functioning as expected. I have observed that there is an error stored in the error memory. Furthermore, the windshield heating does not perform as usual. From my initial assessment, it appears that the battery is heavily discharged or defective, which is a likely cause. I wanted to solicit opinions before proceeding with a defroster repair or thermal window replacement. Has anyone experienced similar window demister problems?
