Mini Cooper Stalling Engine
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Mini Cooper is experiencing engine stalling, particularly when idling, and the check engine light is on due to an error stored in the memory. The issue is suspected to be related to a bad idle air control valve. A suggestion is made to check the air intake for contamination, as a dirty air intake can affect the idle and air valve. Upon inspection, the air intake was found to be heavily contaminated, leading to the stalling issue. The problem was resolved by cleaning the intake and replacing the idle control valve, restoring the car's performance.

Interesting! Where exactly should I be looking on the air intake? Is it easy to check myself, or do I need special tools? I'm not super experienced with this kind of stuff but I am willing to get my hands dirty. Plus any idea if that error stored in the memory is related?

Yeah, the air intake is easy to spot, it's usually a big plastic box connected to the engine. You can open it up and see how dirty the air filter is. But I'd bet the intake manifold itself is gunked up too. As for the error, yeah, that's almost definitely related to the air intake messing with the air valve. Honestly, at that point, I would take it to a workshop. Cleaning the intake manifold properly can be tricky.

Thanks for the insight. You were spot on about the air intake! Ended up being heavily contaminated. The workshop confirmed it was messing with the air valve, causing the car idle to go nuts and the stalling engine. They cleaned everything up and replaced the idle control valve. Cost me 425€, but now my Mini Cooper runs like new!

Sounds like a similar problem I had with my Cooper. The check engine light kept coming on, and the engine would stall whenever I stopped. Have you checked your air intake? A dirty air intake can cause all sorts of issues with the car idle and the air valve.
