Mini Cooper transmission issues

Okay, I'm officially stumped and pretty frustrated! My 2016 Mini Cooper is giving me fits. The engine warning light keeps popping up, and I'm getting error codes related to the transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox has gone into emergency mode a few times, and the gear shifting has become really unclean, almost like the automatic transmission is slipping. Sometimes, there are even grinding noises when shifting gears. Could this all be related to the transmission oil sensor? I suspect it might also be related to the oil level being too low, but I'm not sure. Help!
