I did inspect the air filter, and it seemed clean enough. The intake manifold visually appeared fine as well. When you experienced this, did you also notice a drop in fuel economy, and did it eventually damage the catalytic converter due to the unburnt fuel?

Fuel economy took a hit for sure. Fortunately, I caught it before it damaged the catalytic converter. Given your symptoms and the fact that you checked the basics, a faulty injector is the most likely culprit. I suggest a visit to a workshop to confirm the diagnosis.

I appreciate your insight. I had it checked by a professional, and as suspected, one of the injectors was indeed faulty. After replacing it, the engine is running smoothly again. The total cost came to 515€.

Sounds like you're running a rich mixture alright. I had similar symptoms on my Mini Cooper D – loss of power, rough idle, and the dreaded check engine light. Have you checked your air filter and intake manifold for any obstructions? Those are usually the first things to look at before diving into more complex issues.
