Yeah, I suspected something like that. When you say 'check the wiring', how deep should I go? I am capable of doing some repairs on my own but wouldn't want to cause more damage.

Okay, to clarify: a hall sensor is basically a vehicle sensor that detects position via magnetism. If the error memory mentions the hall sensor specifically, and the tailgate isn't opening fully, I'd bet money on a faulty hall sensor connection like you mentioned. It's probably best to get it checked at the workshop, especially since you're unsure about the wiring.

Just wanted to give an update! Took the Countryman to the shop and they confirmed it was a faulty hall sensor connection on the automatic tailgate, just like you suspected. The repair cost exactly 95€, as expected. Thanks again for your help, it saved me a lot of worrying!

Sounds like a classic hall sensor issue. It's an electrical sensor that tells the car the position of the tailgate. When they fail, the power tailgate usually malfunctions. Have you checked the wiring and plug connection to the sensor? Sometimes a loose or corroded connection can cause these symptoms.
