Mini Countryman Hands Free Microphone Problem

Alright, I'm at my wit's end with this hands-free microphone situation on my 2018 Mini Countryman. Telephony is completely dead – I can't make or receive calls via Bluetooth. I've scanned for error codes, and there's a fault stored related to the microphone. All signs point to a defective infotainment system. Could this actually be the root cause for such a problem? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm bracing for a potentially expensive microphone repair, as the estimate I received is around 815€!

Summary of the thread

The 2018 Mini Countryman experienced a complete failure of the hands-free microphone, preventing Bluetooth calls. Error codes indicated a microphone fault, suggesting a defective infotainment system as the root cause. After checking for software updates and confirming the latest version, the issue persisted. A workshop visit confirmed a faulty head unit, leading to its replacement, which resolved the problem, albeit at a significant cost.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar Bluetooth issue with my previous Volvo. The wireless connection kept dropping, and the audio system was basically unusable for calls. Have you checked for any software updates for the infotainment system? Sometimes that can resolve Bluetooth connectivity glitches.

Thanks for the suggestion! I did check for software updates, but the system says it's already running the latest version. When your Volvo had the problem, did the speech recognition also fail, or was it just the Bluetooth?

Yes, the speech recognition was also completely gone. Basically, anything that relied on the microphone was kaput. In my case, it did turn out to be a faulty head unit. Given your error codes and the symptoms, it does sound like you're heading for an infotainment system replacement. Probably best to get it checked at a workshop.

Just wanted to give you an update: After bringing the Countryman in, it turned out to be a faulty head unit like you suspected! The dealer replaced the infotainment system, and my Bluetooth connection and speech recognition are working perfectly again. The microphone repair cost a hefty 815€, but at least I can use my car's telephony features now. Thanks again for your help!
