Mini Countryman Headlight Cleaning System Problem

I've got a problem with the headlight cleaning system on my 2015 Mini Countryman, 2015 diesel. It's done 128041 km. It's stopped working, and now the windshield washer doesn't work either. I suspect it might be a defective cable connection to the pump or a relay issue. Could this also be related to the LED lights, or is that a separate system?

A malfunctioning headlight cleaning system on your 2015 Mini Countryman diesel with 128000 km, combined with the windshield washer not working, points to a few possibilities. First, check the hose that feeds the washer nozzles. It might be clogged or disconnected. Think of it like a blocked artery preventing blood flow. If that's clear, the pump itself could be the issue. The headlight cleaning and windshield washer systems often share a pump, or at least a reservoir. If the pump's cable connection is faulty, neither system will work. Have you checked the relevant fuses?

Where exactly is the pump located? And how would I check the cable connection for defects?

Yes, the shared pump or reservoir setup is quite common. Since both systems failed simultaneously, a clog is less likely than an electrical fault or a pump malfunction. Locating the pump can be tricky, as it's often tucked away near the washer fluid reservoir, usually in the wheel well or behind the bumper. Checking the cable involves visually inspecting for corrosion or loose connections. If you're not comfortable with auto electrics, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose the issue precisely and replace the faulty parts. It's a relatively simple fix, but requires some electrical knowledge.

Just wanted to update that the issue is resolved. It was indeed a faulty connection to the headlight cleaning pump, just like you suspected. Total cost was 165€ at the shop. Thanks for your help!
