Mini Countryman Hybrid Automatic Gearbox Issues

I am experiencing some concerning issues with the automatic gearbox on my 2017 Mini Countryman Hybrid. The check engine light and transmission indicator light are illuminated. The gearbox also slips or shifts uncleanly, accompanied by grinding noises when shifting. An error is stored in the error memory, pointing towards a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. Could this be a converter failure? Has anyone experienced similar auto transmission problems?

That sounds rough. I had something similar happen with my Countryman. Check engine light and the transmission acting up. Did you notice any engine surge along with the shifting problems? Mine was hesitating, then lurching forward. Could be auto transmission related, especially if you're getting grinding noises.

Sounds very familiar. I'm no mechanic, but based on what you're describing, and the engine surge you mentioned, it's pointing towards a converter issue in the automatic gearbox. Get it checked out by a workshop with experience in transmission repair. It's not something you want to ignore.

Yes, I have experienced an engine surge a few times, now that you mention it. It's subtle, but definitely there. Was your issue also a converter failure, and what was the fix? Any other symptoms I should be looking out for?

I took the Countryman to a workshop, and it does indeed appear to be a converter failure in the automatic gearbox, as suspected. The error codes confirmed it. A transmission repair is going to set me back 2120€. Thanks for the input; it helped me prepare for the diagnosis.
