Mini Countryman Overheating Issue

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2021 Mini Countryman diesel is giving me fits. I'm getting a control unit communication error, which is causing the engine to overheat. The check engine light is on, and I've found coolant spilled under the car, guessing from excessive pressure in the cooling system. I'm suspecting a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Sounds like a pain! I had something similar happen with my Countryman a while back. Check engine light, coolant issues… nightmare. Did you pull any diagnostic trouble codes? The data link connector might be throwing some hints.

Interesting. What was the exact issue with your Countryman when you had those symptoms? Did the data link show a specific control module?

Yep, same symptoms. The diagnostic trouble code pointed to a connectivity issue with one of the control modules. I didn't mess with it myself; just took it straight to the workshop. They found a loose connection. Best to get it checked; overheating can cause major damage.

Just wanted to close the loop. You were spot on! Took it in for car diagnostics, and it turned out to be a connectivity issue with one of the control modules, just like you said. A defective plug connection was the culprit. The total repair bill was 95€, so nothing too crazy. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
