Mini Countryman Start Stop Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Mini Countryman is experiencing issues with its start-stop system, leading to engine stalling at traffic lights and a persistent warning light. The problem is suspected to be related to a heavily discharged or defective car battery. After consulting with others who had similar experiences, it was confirmed that the battery was the cause. Replacing the battery resolved the issue, restoring the start-stop functionality.

The error code just says 'Start-stop system malfunction'. How did you figure out it was the car battery on your Volvo? Was it the same error, or something else?

My Volvo displayed a similar, generic message related to the start-stop system. After some digging, a low voltage error was stored deep in the system's diagnostics, inaccessible without proper tools. Given your symptoms, a discharged or defective battery is the most probable cause. I would recommend visiting a workshop for a proper diagnosis and battery test.

Took the Countryman to the shop. Turns out the car battery was indeed the culprit, just like you thought. New battery installed, start-stop is working again. Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar issue with my Volvo a while back. The start-stop system relies heavily on battery health. When the battery voltage drops too low, the system disables itself to ensure reliable engine start. Does the error memory specify anything about battery voltage or charge status?
