Mini One audio system failure
Summary of the thread
The audio system in a 2006 Mini One diesel stopped working entirely, with no sound output from any source. Possible causes included a blown fuse, a faulty amplifier, or defective speakers. After ruling out the fuse and considering the lack of prior sound distortion, a defective bass speaker was suspected. A mechanic confirmed the issue was indeed a faulty bass speaker, which was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did check the fuse, and it seems to be fine. The problem is the same regardless of whether I'm using the radio, USB audio, or the auxiliary input. I didn't notice any sound distortion before it stopped working. What do you mean by amplifier?

The amplifier is an electronic component that increases the power of an audio signal to drive the car speakers. Given that the issue persists across all input methods (radio, USB audio, auxiliary input) and you've ruled out the fuse, it's plausible that either the amplifier or, as you suspected, the speakers are defective. However, since there was no prior sound distortion, I would suggest that a defective bass speaker might be the culprit. I recommend taking your Mini One to a qualified technician for a diagnostic assessment. They can use specialized tools to pinpoint the exact cause and provide an accurate repair estimate.

Thanks for the advice. I took my Mini One to a mechanic, and you were spot on. It was indeed a faulty bass speaker causing the issue. They replaced it, and my audio system is now working perfectly. The total repair cost was 280€.

Good day. Regarding your Mini One's audio issues, several factors could be at play. First, have you checked the fuse for the sound system? It is a simple check, but often overlooked. Also, does the issue persist regardless of the audio source? For example, does USB audio, auxiliary input, or the radio exhibit the same behavior? Finally, are you experiencing any sound distortion prior to the complete failure? This information would be helpful in diagnosing the problem more accurately. If the fuse is fine and all sources are affected, it could indicate a problem with the amplifier or the speakers themselves.
