Temperature fluctuation, you say? That's interesting. How would I check that? Where exactly is the exhaust temperature sensor located? Trying to get my head around this before I start ripping things apart!

Yeah, the temperature fluctuation was subtle, but noticeable on the OBD reader. You can get live data using one of those Bluetooth dongles and a phone app – might be worth a shot before taking it to the shop. Honestly, unless you're super confident, I'd get a mechanic to check the sensor and the exhaust system for leaks. Could save you a lot of hassle in the long run, especially with the sensor replacement.

Big thanks! Turns out it was a leak as suspected near the exhaust manifold. The garage did a sensor replacement, plus sorted the small exhaust leak. Cost me 265€. Runs like a dream now!

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar with my Mini One – though it wasn’t a 2007 model, and you know how these things can vary. Check Engine light, power loss… the whole shebang. For me, it was the exhaust temperature sensor too! Have you noticed any weird temperature fluctuation readings? The engine management system might be going haywire if it's getting bad data. A faulty exhaust component can definitely mess things up.
