Mini One climate control malfunction

I am experiencing a perplexing issue with the climate control in my 2011 Mini One, manufactured in 2011 with a gasoline engine, currently showing 23167 km on the odometer. The primary symptom is a malfunction of the climate control unit, resulting in the air conditioning no longer cooling effectively. Upon inspection, an error is stored in the error memory, pointing towards a fault in the rear ventilation flap. Based on my initial assessment, the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection of the component. Could this diagnosis be correct? I am expecting repair costs around 95€.

Rear ventilation flap issue on a Mini One, eh? That's a tricky one, but not unheard of. If the air conditioning isn't cooling and there's an error code, a faulty flap motor or wiring issue is a strong possibility. I'd start by checking the fuse for the climate control system – seems basic, but you never know. Also, have you tried manually adjusting the rear vents, if equipped, to see if there's any change in airflow? Sometimes, a simple mechanical obstruction can mimic an electrical fault. Is the error code a generic HVAC code, or something specific to the rear ventilation system? Knowing the exact code could help narrow down the problem.

Thank you for the quick response. I had checked the fuses already, and they seem to be in working order. The error code I retrieved from the error memory is related to the rear ventilation flap circuit, suggesting a specific fault there rather than a generic HVAC malfunction. You mentioned a possible mechanical obstruction; could you elaborate on where I should look for that in the rear ventilation system? Is it easily accessible, or would it require dismantling part of the interior?

Okay, since the error code points directly to the rear ventilation flap, and you've checked the fuses, a mechanical issue or wiring fault is most likely. The flap and its motor are usually located within the rear ventilation ducting, often behind the rear seats or side panels. Accessing it can be a bit involved, potentially requiring some trim removal – unfortunately, it's difficult to say exactly without knowing the specific configuration of your Mini. Given your initial cost estimate and the potential complexity, it might be wise to consult with a qualified technician. They can perform a thorough diagnosis, pinpoint the exact cause (wiring, motor, or obstruction), and provide a more accurate repair estimate. It sounds like you're on the right track, but sometimes it's best to leave these things to the professionals to avoid further complications.

Many thanks for confirming my suspicions regarding the ventilation flap. I have taken the Mini to a trusted workshop, and as you predicted, they confirmed the fault in the rear ventilation flap circuit. The cable to the flap was indeed defective and was replaced. The HVAC system is now functioning correctly, and rear passengers can enjoy proper air circulation again. Total cost came to 95€, as initially estimated. Appreciate your insights!
