Mini One Diesel Bypass Valve and Overheating Issue

My 2004 Mini One diesel is throwing a bypass valve malfunction error. The engine is also overheating. Suspect it's a consequential error, any thoughts?

Sounds familiar. Had a similar issue with my Mini. The error code led me down a rabbit hole checking the exhaust system and air intake. Turns out, the bypass valve error can be a symptom, not the cause. Think of it like a check engine light – it tells you something's wrong, but not necessarily what. Did you notice any power loss or coolant leak?

Power loss, yes, now that you mention it. Coolant level seems fine though. So, you're saying the bypass valve itself might be okay, and the error is just a consequence of something else?

Exactly. The bypass valve is just reacting to another problem. In my case, it was a faulty sensor causing incorrect readings, which then messed with the air intake and exhaust system. The error code pointed to the bypass valve, but that wasn't the culprit. Given you're experiencing overheating, it might be wise to get the coolant system checked out thoroughly, including the water pump and thermostat. I would suggest a car repair workshop.

Thanks for the input. Turns out it was a coolant leak causing the overheating, which triggered the bypass valve error. No cost to repair as it was a loose hose clamp. Appreciate the help.
