Mini One Diesel Error Messages and Weak Battery

I am experiencing some worrisome issues with my 2016 Mini One Diesel. I am encountering persistent error messages in the speedometer, accompanied by weak or flickering lights. The engine is becoming increasingly difficult to start due to a seemingly weak vehicle battery. Additionally, an error is stored in the error memory, although I am unsure of the specific code. Could this be a sign of impending battery failure, specifically related to the low battery, or is something else to blame with the battery charging?

The symptoms you describe suggest potential issues with the car battery or its charging system. I had a similar experience with my old Peugeot – error messages, flickering lights, and eventually a complete battery failure. Have you checked the battery's voltage recently? A multimeter can provide a quick assessment.

Thank you for your quick response! I do not have a multimeter to hand; however, could a defective battery sensor cause these symptoms, including the error message in the speedometer and the weak car battery when starting the engine? I saw this mentioned as a possibility. Could that also explain why the vehicle battery is not charging properly?

A defective battery sensor could certainly be the root cause, especially if it's impacting the battery charging process. The error message and other symptoms align with that possibility. Given the complexity, I would recommend consulting a qualified mechanic for a proper diagnosis and repair. Replacing the sensor yourself could lead to further issues if not done correctly.

I wanted to provide closure on this issue. As suggested, I took my Mini One to the local mechanic. They confirmed the battery sensor was indeed faulty, leading to the low battery issues. The total repair cost was 315€. Thank you for your advice; it saved me a lot of unnecessary troubleshooting!
