Mini One Diesel IAT Sensor Issue

I am experiencing some concerning issues with my 2004 Mini One diesel, which has done 183267 km. The check engine light is illuminated, and the engine power seems significantly reduced. Furthermore, the engine is running quite rough. I've connected it to a car diagnostics tool, and an error related to the intake air temperature sensor is stored in the error memory. I strongly suspect the IAT sensor is defective. Has anyone encountered something similar?

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot. The check engine light was on, and the car felt sluggish. Have you tried using a diagnostic tool to check the temperature reading from the IAT sensor? It should give you a better idea if it's faulty.

That's interesting. What exactly did you see with the temperature reading? Was it way off, or fluctuating wildly?

With my Peugeot, the temperature reading was completely erratic – sometimes showing ridiculously high values, other times nothing at all. Given your symptoms and the error code, it really does point to the IAT sensor. While you could try cleaning it, it might be best to get it checked by a professional. I ended up going to a workshop, and they confirmed the issue. Saved me a lot of headache.

Just wanted to provide an update. I took your advice and brought the Mini to a workshop. The diagnostic tool confirmed it was indeed the IAT sensor. They replaced it, and the check engine light is now off, the engine runs smoothly, and the power is back. The repair cost me 155€. Thanks again for your help!
