Mini One Gear Shifting Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mini One is experiencing gear shifting issues, with the engine warning light on and grinding noises. The problem is suspected to be linked to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, as indicated by error codes. The gearbox may also be in emergency mode. The solution involves checking and potentially replacing the sensor and ensuring the gearbox oil level is adequate, which was confirmed and resolved by a garage.

How did you check the gearbox oil level? Is it something I can do myself, or will I need to take my One to a shop?

I didn't check it myself because it can be a bit messy. However, based on your error codes and symptoms, it's very likely the gearbox sensor. If it’s the temperature sensor due to low oil, you might get away with just topping it up. If the sensor is faulty, it needs replacing. Best get it to a workshop to be sure with the automatic transmission.

Just wanted to update you: the garage confirmed it was the transmission oil temperature sensor. They also found the oil level was low, like you suggested. All fixed for 365€! Thanks for the help!

Sounds similar to what I experienced with my Mini too, though mine is a Cooper. I had some rough gear shifting and the engine light came on. Did you check the gearbox oil level? That could be the gearbox sensor acting up because of low oil.
