Cheers for the quick reply! Ignition timing, eh? I'm not super clued up on that stuff, but I'll have a look at the cable. Where exactly is the knock sensor cable, and what should I be looking for? Is it easy to get to?

Yes, that's exactly what happened in my case. I'm not a mechanic, so after checking the connection, I took it straight to the workshop. The mechanic confirmed the cable was the issue. Better safe than sorry, you know? Could save you from bigger problems down the line. Ignition timing is seriously important!

Just wanted to update you – took the Mini to the local garage. Turns out it was a dodgy connection to the knock sensor, just like you suspected! They cleaned it up and cleared the warning light. Runs like a dream now and I'm hoping the fuel efficiency will improve too. 95€ all in. Thanks a bunch for the help!

That sounds suspiciously like what happened with my Mini One. Check engine light, rough idling... very annoying! Have you had the ignition timing checked? The knock sensor is vital for that. Could be the culprit. Have you checked the sensor cable?
